My new bike

Yes, this is my new bike.

I have about 15 km from home to my work place. Going by bike is the most planet friendly way, unfortunately I'm not in good shape.

And here is the trick: I've bough an electrically assisted bike!!! I already tryed it once and it works, I've been able to go and come back in quite good shape.

I'm changing 3.5 EUR of gasoil for 0.05 EUR of electricity, that in Spain, has a big chunk of renewal energy.

The only weak point of the system is the battery. Don't know it's carbon footprint, but needs to be replaced every 2 years, or that's what they have selled me.

Yes, I'm the owner of this beautifull watch.

I have no idea of the meaning of the Kanji characters on it. They are not the typical Japanese characters for one, two, three... The only characters I've been able to identify are: 日曜日 meaning Sunday.

After years abandoned in a box, the recent tragedy, has brought my old Japanese watch back to my hands. Today I tried to replace it's wasted battery by a new one. It didn't work. The clock that measures time, the same time that makes us old, the same time that clocks towars our end.

Oscar and Johny this summer have proved that, even with the limited equipment, you can make a decent paella for ~200.

From my weekend in Binéfar.

The image is taken from top of a high defense tower. Lucky me it was with the last sun lights of the day.

As it is common practice in this blog the image has been craftly enhanced. In this case I've joined 2 jpeg images from the same RAW. The clowds are exposed at -0.8EV and the church at +0.5EV. The church looked foggy in contrast to the dark rich saturated sky so I had to darken it -6 points while increasing the contrast +12 points. This preserved a good dark color for the grass while enhancing the bright details of the church's roof and cementery's walls.

This summer Florence was full of Bengaly inmigrants selling this flying toys to the tourists. The toy consists on a 4 wing disc with a color led at each wing. The led's are located at different distances. They are powered at different rates depending on their location on the wing. The more outwards, that have to travel more, are powered the most. In this way at rotation they draw circles of constant light.

My brother saw the little caterpillar from the image below. When I went to his home during the weekend I could do the picture above. And finally when I call him the other day to check how the chrysalis was doing he told me that he let a red yellow butterfly out of the room without realizing that the cocoon was alredy empty.

It did the transformation in 9 days.

Early lights from this saturday morning.

Well... and a little bit of photoshop massage.

Katie is helping me to grow as a photographer, I take many good ideas from her blog (I will do one day my own version of the firecamp sparks under the stars). So I'm glad to explain what I modified here from my original picture:
1.- Increased the contrast of montserrat, the mountain at the end of the image and it's sourounding sky.
2.- Increase the lightnes of the whole mountain in the middle (paller de tot l'any) with all it's beautifull oak trees.
3.- Give light to the rocks in the middle term by increasing its saturation. This gives the sense that the sun is warming them. In fact the sun was doing so but at the capture of my picture a cloud decided to hide the sun, that means I'm not cheeting, I'm just reproducing artificially what I really saw.
4.- A little bit of 'sharpening'.

My father in law was challenging me about the low precision of my compact camera to capture a precise moment. Certainly the G10 it's not as fast as my 350 were the instant I push the button it takes the picture, but it's not as bad as my old S60. This picture was taken the 1st of December. That day, when I quit the office I saw this strange configuration between the moon and two planets.

It has taken me time to upload the picture because I'm not happy with it, I feel I could do mutch better. I should have taken several exposures with many lighting conditions, then at home get the best of each part of the image: A well exposed moon, brighter lights from the mountains at the end and perhaps a better first term. Ok, ok, I know that for many people combining pictures is cheeting, but what can I say, I like it.

Hot spots from the sensor of my canon 350D

The day I took this night picture I started a journey into sensor defects. Even if I reduced the image size you can clearly see red and blue spots in it. This spots turn out to be 'hot photosites' and are defective areas of the sensor were leakage current heat the sensor and burn the electronic film.

You can see in the posted image that my sensor has three types of defects, the red spots, the blue spots and the white dots. Some are bigger than others and they all increase with ISO sensitivity and time exposure. The ugly thing of my sensor is that even at ISO100 and 1/2 second I have clear defects.

What camera do you have dear reader? can you make me a favor? take a black picture with your camera, just leave the cover on and use this settings: ISO400, 30 seconds, jpg format at max resolution, no contrast or sharpening increase. Send the picture to abracaarbres(flower)gmail.com and indicate the model of your camera and the ambient temperature when you took the image. Temperature is quite inportant, in the case of my camera the defects I get using ISO1600 at 5C look similar to the defects of ISO100 at 30C

I snapped my finger with the car's door. The door was fully closed and I coudn't take my finger out, I had to open the door. I still remember the pain.

Last weekend I was very lucky to find this nest. I had a lot of fun watching a busy couple constantly up and down bringing food to their nest. They were so busy that they didn't care about me taking pictures, I was using the 100mm. I was really close.

Few days ago my brother sent me this picture. It kept moving through my head. Imagine yourself eating a delicious fish and sudently feeling a hook tearing your guts. This is us, the homo sapiens, the wild capitalism and it's colateral effects. While we seat pasively on the sofa the sixth extinction event takes place and half of the species of our planet will become extinct in the next century. It's our shame and we are all guilty.

The picture belongs to a shearwater that got trapped by longline fishing in front of l'Escala. More than 70 got trapped. 27 of them were rescued and brought to CRAM, a foundation to preserve and rescue sea animals like protected birds, tourtles, mammals... 12 were still alive I don't know how many finaly survived.

Next time you buy fish, make sure it was captured by means that minimize by-catch

This is a crop from a Macro picture I took last summer in the "serra del Cadí". I like the little scales that cover moths wings and body. So fragile.

Butterflyes and Moths belong to the order Lepidoptera. The word Lepidoptera comes from the Ancient Greek Lepidos (scale) and Pterón (wing). So here you have them.

My friend Frikosal brings to his blog an interesting question. Regarding the quality of his images, he asks himself what part of the beauty comes from the image itself and what part comes just from that magic moment that he experienced when taking the picture? In other words, how can we measure our pictures taking out all of our emotional links that brought us the magic moment of that shoot. It's a hard question.

Yesterday morning I saw this little rabbit. I couldn't take any good picture out of it, but besides the total lack of image quality I want to post it because I know that many of you will understand the strong emotions that I felt having this little rabbit so close to me. Once, another admired photographer asked for a fork, and later for a ball pen. I had to do something. Now Katie asks me for a flower, but not any flower, a special one. Sabadell, the city you see under this sunset sun, it's a really nice town. Streets smell like roses, birds freely sing and love is in the air... It's people are nice and friendly. From the many parks and gardens it's to mention the 'parc de Catalunya' with 45 Hectare, you must see it. But the best thing that Sabadell has by far is that it's only 15 minutes from Terrassa.

This flowers are kind of magic, they live just a day. They open in the morning and on the afternoon they have lost their leaves. The next day new flowers will bloom.

I dream on a picture with many of this flowers. I have it on my mind but I'm unable to capture it. It's escaping me.
